Lighting Critique Lasvit

LASVIT'S MISSION IS TO TRANSFORM GLASS INTO BREATHTAKING LIGHT AND DESIGN EXPERIENCEBeauty and elegance came together in the heart of Europe and made Czech glass, also known as Bohemian, famous for its uniqueness and extraordinary quality. It became the decoration of choice in nearly every palace for centuries. Whether cut, blown or otherwise embellished, the sights of Roman Emperor Rudolf II, French king Louis XV or Empress Elizabeth the Great of Russia surely occasionally fell on its sparkling surface as they were shaping human history.
Development      unconventional, free spirited creativity
The intelligent manufacture of locally available natural resources and versatility of the product allowed the glass to become a staple of Czech heritage, a symbol of the small country’s aesthetic tradition and a craft passed on from generation to generation. Bohemian glass adapted to every artistic course and became a small taste of luxury that everybody desires to own to this day.The brand Lasvit, founded in 2007 by Leon Jakimič, sheds a new light on Bohemian glass and takes it into the next millennium. Lasvit combines the authenticity of glass craft with innovative technologies and creative craftsmanship. In a few short years, Lasvit has established itself as the authority delivering bespoke lighting sculptures and art installations made from hand-blown glass.Collaborations with renowned designers and artists produce also unique glass collections. Nendo, Ross Lovegrove, Daniel Libeskind, Maarten Baas, Czech legends René Roubíček and Bořek Šípek are among those who choose Lasvit in order to embody their unconventional artistic vision, endow it with the precision and mastery of our glassmakers, and produce impressive creative oeuvre. This is a manifesto of Lasvits’s uncompromising mission: To transform glass into breathtaking light and design experiences.crystal rock

Certainly not from the Stone Age but closer to the fictional Kryptonite, Crystal Rock appears in the cave of the future as an ambassador to the fusion of nature and man, light and reflection, transparency and mass. All these characteristics are gathered within a perfectly cut, yet roughly sculpted contemporary silex that interacts between light and darkness, suspended in air like a frozen shooting star. It‘s as if the world stood still the moment you gaze upon it, its multiple reflections and deflections fascinating during the day and even more dynamic at night, when lighted. Crystal Rock‘s LED source highlights the artistic glass making process and advanced gluing techniques, gleaming on its inner curved surfaces and defining form on cut facets.

Critique: Its very unique, playful but still very simple yet still aesthetically pleasing. The inspiration of the piece translate well to the  design of the fixture, the name of the piece is also fitting to the design of the piece. In my personal opinion it does look like  crystal candy rocks, the variations in colors also makes the fixture look like candy, even playful and fun. Its also very nice that they make the pieces handcrafted individually and not machine made.

LOLLIPOP

Ever peered into the sun through a green glass bottle? Or enjoyed a slightly distorted reality through a colored lens? The Lollipop collection is based on similar moments of fascination with transparency and perception.Boris Klimek experimented with the technique of slumped glass, exploring its wide possibilities in terms of glass coloring, glint and internal structure. Made of amorphous glass plates, combined with the metal holder and inserted light source, the resulting objects are reminiscent of lollipops. The Lollipop collection consists of table and stand-alone lamps, as well as pendant lights.

Boris Klimek studied at the Zlín Atelier of the Academy of Arts Architecture and Design in Prague. He received numerous prizes for his work and is currently based in Prague, where he focuses on product and interior design, as well as exhibition displays. His designs entail conceptual overlaps and often carry stories. Klimek’s designs aim at both function and beauty – particularly through their poetry, playfulness and ability to spark fantasy and emotion.

Critique:  This piece is also similar to the crystal rock fixture its very fun and playful. The name lollipop best fits the look and design of the piece, the glass in the fixture is good to distribute the light in the piece, it dose not disrupt the light. the variations in color also makes it more look like a realistic lollipop. the piece is also handcrafted and individually made that is why its unique. There is also variations in size in the glass and the shape of the fixture.
HATS
Reminiscent of the late Victorian bowler hat, Hats concept combines the demand for absolute practicality with simplicity of design. Inspired by the industrial lighting and street lamps in European cities, Hats carries a subtle sense of familiarity. Its transparent colored glass topper lights the ceiling while the clear bottom is starkly utilitarian. Hats’ sections are connected by three industrial-style custom screws, paying homage to its original inspiration. Inside, a translucent light bulb softens and evenly distributes the light. Hats is the ideal designer-light for even the smallest interiors or a perfect unit to combine into groups.

Critique: this is very cute, fun and playful its a little bit different from the other fixtures they have but its still very simple. The light is still evenly distributed and glass is still used as the medium. There are 3 colors of this fixture, it comes in transparent, white and black it would have been more nice if there are more colors because they have a thing they do that they have a variations in colors in almost all of their pieces. the hat name also fits the fixture.
